We admit it. We watch the TMZ show. We hate ourselves for it, we realize we’re part of the problem, but we just can’t quit…
So, while bitterly watching tonight’s yawntastic episode, it was hard not to notice this disturbing trend of a cockier, entitled new breed of paparazzi, who think they’ve somehow transcended from lowly camera-wielding street varmints to honest to God journalists…
One photog asked The Hills starlet, Kristen Cavalari, something along the lines of, “How do you feel about all the reality stars getting 15 minutes of fame?” She replied, “I don’t know, I’m not one of them,” which is just funny. But as Michelle Tanner would say, how rude!
Another papa-rude-zi went up to Verne Troyer (better known as Mini Me) and started asking him all kinds of questions about his ex-wife’s mental state, essentially accusing Troyer of making the woman suicidal.
Yet a third photog flat-out asked Ashley Tisdale of High School Musical fame, “How do you like your new nose? Are you planning on getting any more plastic surgery?”
This otherwise mind-numbingly boring footage was purchased for big money by TMZ soley because the rude questions made it “a story” (of sorts.) Once again, incredible feats of douchebaggery were rewarded with (temporary) fame and fortune. And that’s just the tip of the rudeness iceberg, truley…
TMZ (and in turn virtually every other entertainment news outlet) isn’t even about celebrities anymore - it’s about paparazzi harassing celebrities! The “paps” have been placed on a pedestal, and it’s kinda freaking us out.
We don’t offer a solution. We don’t even resolve to stop dishing celebrity gossip - but because we love Hollywood and its stars, not purely to be mean to everyone who makes more money than us (that would be exhausting!) We’re just ranting.
On a really disturbing side note - you know that horrifying old picture of the naked girl running down the road in Vietnam? That same photographer took the now-famous (or is it infamous?) picture of Paris Hilton sobbing in the back of the police car… What has the world come to??
